At-Home Euthanasia Experience

What To Expect With a Humane At Home Pet Euthanasia

  • The process begins with a phone consult:  Dr. Teskin will call to get more information from you including diagnosis made or disease suspected by primary doctor, she will talk with you about quality of life, and she will ask if you have ever been through this process in the past.
  • From there, Dr. Teskin will schedule a time that fits the needs of the pet, client, and doctor.  If our services are not an option, we will make sure you have alternative reputable options.  We truly want to help in any way we can!
  • We recommend choosing a calm area where your pet feels comfortable (can be inside or out).
  • We will call when we are on our way to give you a "head's up" and ask if there are any specific driving instructions.  We will let you know what type of vehicle and color to expect (most likely a navy blue Jeep Cherokee or silver Dodge Ram).  No matter which vehicle we use, please remember your pet will be dignified throughout the process!
  • Once we discretely arrive, we will get some necessary paperwork out of the way and confirm aftercare instructions.  Dr. Teskin will complete the paperwork with you including euthanasia consent form, form to confirm pet has not bit anyone, and aftercare form.  If Dr. Teskin feels the pet still has good quality of life, she will talk about hospice options and the visit will be turned into a hospice call.
  • We will explain the procedure and encourage you to ask questions
  • From there, we will give a pain/sedative injection under the skin to take away pain, fear, and anxiety.  This injection can cause some stinging occasionally, and some pets take up to 15 minutes to take effect. During this time, we encourage family members to love on the pet.  You will be encouraged to spend as much time with your pet as you need.  We will then give a final injection into the vein and your pet will relax completely--please be aware some pets lose bowel control.
  • We take care of all after-care if you elect cremation
